Deadly Impact: Shallow Impression
July 6th 2010 18:08
I've seen Deadly Impact several times. It has gone by different names and starred other actors, but it doesn't hide its lack of originality well. The plot is lame, the characters boring as hell, and not once did I really care what was going on.
The only thing keeping this movie from being a total mess is a really antagonist in the form of Joe Pantoliano. This villain reminds me a lot of Heath Ledger's Joker, although this time around he was battling against some schmoe instead of a cool character like Batman.
I'm probably being hard on this movie, but it always frustrates me to see potential go to such a waste. You have an interesting villain played by a fantastic actor, and every second he's not on the screen feels like a formulaic episode of a generic cop drama. Never in this movie did I feel anything new was being brought to the table, even the parts I liked had been done more effectively in other films.
If you REALLY like Joey Pants then you might want to give the movie a shot if it's on TV or something, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find it or anything. It's got moments sure, but few of them worth the wait.
