Defendor: Ill Equipped

Because of the similar subject matter, Defendor has been drawing a lot of comparisons with Kick-Ass. Both films have their own charm with great casts, but Defendor is missing expert balance of comedy and drama balance that Kick-Ass handled so well.
Woody Harrelson steals the show, turning the film into much more than a genre parody. He plays his character with a childlike innocence that's incredibly endearing, making the entire experience feel more like a character study. Unfortunately, this diminishes most of the comedic elements, making the darker situations of the film a little too real and uncomfortable.
The story aims for realism and goes as expected, but Harrelson doesn't have enough good material to keep the audience invested. The film doesn't stop to have fun enough, and the predictable nature of the plot makes the entire movie drag considerably.
While Defendor showcases yet another example of Woody Harrelson's underrated acting abilities, the rest of the film doesn't achieve enough to keep an audience's interest. If you're expecting another Kick-Ass you'll be disappointed, but if you're on the hunt for a hero movie with a little depth, you might be pleasantly surprised.
