The A-Team: A-Okay
June 23rd 2010 14:13
I've always had a soft spot for eighties television shows. They never take themselves too seriously, and there's good old-fashioned fun. The A-Team manages to preserve the spirit of the television show, but still gives the summer action movie crowd some simple entertainment.
The cast fills their roles quite well, and although no one can replace Mr. T, Rampage did a much better job than I imagined he would. Neeson and Cooper managed to stay true to the characters while maintaining their images, while Copley entirely immerses himself in the role of Murdock. Jessica Biel isn't terrible, but she certainly doesn't bring anything to the table that any other hot twenty-something couldn't have.
The plot is simple, but The A-Team isn't supposed to be complicated. It was a little more violent than the show, but the target audience is more mature too. People may complain that this is superficial fluff, but while most summer blockbusters are downright insulting to their audience, The A-Team feels like it loves its viewers.
As far as mindless action movies are concerned, The A-Team is a fun movie experience. It was faithful to the show, but even if you weren't familiar with the characters, they're quite easy to figure out. Remember, back then you didn't need to watch every episode of a television show to know what the hell was going on.
